Before Us [album] is an uplifting album choc-full of funky and smooth numbers. This somehow manages to dust 6 awesome decades of varied influences over Duncan Alex’s own incredibly original and invigorating prog-pop/rock/RnB end projects. Smooth vocals are set against 70’s/80’s- style vocoder and also fluid, gritty guitar riffing by simply Exmouth local guitar hero Ian Davey, underpinned by alternately hot and foot-stomping basslines. This music adventure has several unexpected situations in store, such as the husky tones of guest artist Jess Hatton-Brown. It starts great and gets even better, rewarding repeated concentrates, leaving you wanting a lot more. BBC radio described the particular track ‘Before Us’ as, “so considerably happening that it shouldn’t operate but it flippin’ well does…we don’t discover how you do it, just keep doing it!” – So state we all.

Considering that literally before he or she was born, Duncan Alex listened avidly to all kinds of music (his or her Mum was a performer). But he first felt the itch to write his own music in his late teenagers. It started generally with layering words of the tune and beats, by using a cassette walkman to increase up tracks, then doubling those, after that getting a keyboard and also 4-track, then buying a PC to be able to produce a lot more layering and parts.

After many years producing cassette demo tapes at home, he worked his method towards actual business time, and made a debut EP. It got Australian national airplay on children’s station Triple J, and was written up throughout Rolling Stone publication as “classy and promising”.

A whole lot has happened since, in music, plus life – and life’s experiences tried nevertheless failed to draw Duncan faraway from writing and making in his spare time, along with collaborating with others. He’s written hundreds of songs. He’s published and sung throughout covers and genuine ones electric and acoustic guitar bands, and when that first became very easy to do so he also worked remotely. An in-person collaborator, fellow indie singer-songwriter Jess Hatton-Brown, is now in fact remote (living in Nantes) and she features on a magnificently sung track around the new album. The primary collaborator on this new recording, however, is Ian Davey. Duncan satisfied this particular rock the almighty guitarist a few years back again, and it became apparent that together they might produce something excellent, but very different. Several demos have been noted, and some have been reconstructed as records for this album.

Before Us, your fourth album by Duncan Alex, has been described as “very original”, “future blues”, “laid back but invigorating” and “very uplifting”. It’s time for individuals to hear what the tunes of Duncan Alex is about.
